No matter how much progress is made in promoting gender equality, there are certain fundamental differences between women and men that affect how both sexes live-and how healthy those lives are.For example, women are disproportionately affected and disabled by joint diseases such as arthritis, lupus and fibromyalgia, according to a report in Clinical Orthopaedics & Related Research. In fact, women suffer from severe arthritis at three times the rate of men, and according to a study from the New England Journal of Medicine, are twice as likely to need total joint replacements.Cindy Goodfellow from Temple, Texas, experienced this inequality firsthand. An active senior with six grandchildren, Goodfellow's arthritis affected her so severely in her knees that she had trouble performing routine activities."Every time I climbed, stood or even sat in one place for a while, the pain was excruciating," said Goodfellow. "I felt like I was living a part-time life." She knew that she needed to take action before her pain forced her to miss the things she enjoyed most. But hundreds of thousands of women are not seeking the treatment they require. While the need for total joint replacement may be greater for women, studies show they are less likely to receive treatment. There are a number of theories why, from relentless schedules to uncertainty about joint replacements themselves. After consulting with her physician on possible treatments, Goodfellow decided to undergo surgery and receive a Stryker Triathlon knee replacement, the first knee system designed with women in mind. Based on years of research, the Triathlon Knee System has a more narrow design than traditional knee implants, helping to provide improved fit and function for the female anatomy. Dr. Kirby Hitt, a leading orthopaedist from Temple, Texas, performed the surgery on Goodfellow and is one of the first surgeons in the world to use the Triathlon Knee System at his practice."With the demand for joint replacement treatment increasing, I want to be sure my patients receive a knee system that has the potential to meet their specific needs, regardless of their gender," said Dr. Hitt. "With the Triathlon, my patients are consistently surprised with the shorter length of the recovery period and how quickly they recover their range of motion and perform activities that were difficult prior to surgery."One of the key components of a knee system is its bearing technology. Not only does the Triathlon system provide an improved fit for women, but its Stryker bearing-surface technology will give ease of mind to patients like Goodfellow for many years to come. "At first, knee replacement surgery seemed like a scary procedure," said Goodfellow. "But after receiving the Triathlon and having the ability to do things like kneeling in the garden and playing with my grandkids, I can't envision my life any other way."
A Little Something about Herbal Medicine FirstBefore we should address the issue of possible benefits that women can enjoy from the use of herbal medicine, wouldnt it be proper to know a little something about the history of herbal medicines first?Herbal medicine has been in use for years and years. But herbal medicine can also become a danger but blame the humans (thats us) for that as well. You have to take the necessary precautions to ensure that herbal medicine will be completely beneficial to your body.First, if youre going to buy herbal medicine rather than making one for yourself, its essential that you buy herbal medicine thats produced by a reputable company and buy it from a reputable retailer or seller as well. Pain during intercourse is the most sensitive problem amongst women that most of them feel it difficult to consult a physician. But this can be treated as the reason might be some physical illness.Since a woman plays a major part of the whole reproduction process right beginning from the formation of the ova till giving birth to the child, painful intercourse could be a difficult stage for you to pass. In medical terms, it is known as dyspareunia that leads to tearing, ripping, burning or aching sensation during penetration. This pain could occur at the vaginal opening or deep in the pelvis or anywhere else in between. This could also be felt throughout the pelvic area and sexual organs. Reasons for pain during intercourse 1. The most common reason for the irritation during intercourse is insufficient lubrication or arousal that could create a vicious circle leading to a fear among the woman. Women having a hysterectomy or mastectomy can also face this problem with arousal because of the feeling of incompleteness. This could be treated with prompt and proper consultation whereby the physician provides you with lubrication methods that in turn will reduce discomfort. 2. Another factor for painful intercourse is thinning and drying of vaginal tissues when menopause begins amongst women. This occurs due to less production of the estrogen hormone that is needed to maintain vaginal tissue moist. As the ability of the vagina to make its own mucus tissues declines so as it becomes dry, itchy and painful leading to pain during intercourse. 3. Unintentional muscle spasms of the thighs, pelvis and vagina can also make penetration impossible and this stage is known as vaginismus that could develop from any of the above mentioned factors or due to psychological factors. A victim of traumatic sexual experience or rape can also lead to vaginismus and as such counseling can help a lot. 4. Most common reasons for painful intercourse is vaginal, pelvic infection or boils or cysts and boils, tumors, scars or anything that narrows the vagina, uterine tissue growing outside the uterus with bleeding and pain, intact hymen, complications of any past surgery, diseases such as diabetes that interfere with the physical process of arousal or orgasm. Any of the factors due to less lubrication can be overcome with methods such as lubrication gels, estrogen creams or estrogen replacement therapy in pills. Flowers have long been used to symbolize lifes important events and emotions. Roses are symbols of love, lilies, the flowers of death and renewal, and carnations a sign of appreciation. We use flowers as wedding decorations, Valentines Day presents and Christmas ornaments. No matter what the occasion is, a beautiful flower arrangement is a wonderful way to celebrate life through vibrant colors and rich floral scents.Florists provide customers with a variety of arrangements made specifically for certain occasions and events. However, if you are on a budget, flower arrangements can be fairly pricey. Professional florists charge exorbitant amounts for their expertise, and the flowers themselves can be extremely expensive. Making your own arrangements can be a fun and creative alternative to ordering pieces from a florist. By purchasing flowers individually, you can choose the exact colors and scents you need to say exactly what you want to communicate. When making your own flower arrangement, you should first consider its purpose. If you are making arrangements for a wedding, white is typically the presiding color. You should start with basic white flowers and add a few accents that match the bridesmaids dresses. Large leafy green pieces add a nice contrast to delicate buds for table centerpieces, and sometimes simplicity is the best aesthetic tactic. If you are making centerpieces for several tables, you can purchase your flowers in bulk and use one design over and over again, or you can make each piece an individual work of art.For vase arrangements, choose your container first, and pick flowers that are the correct height for the vase. When you cut your flowers, be sure to cut the stems at an angle so they can absorb water correctly and stay fresh for a long time. Vase arrangements require a focal point, and this can be one large flower or a grouping of several. It is important to choose a color scheme and to stick with it. For instance, you would not want to mix red and pink roses, or to combine yellow daisies with died green carnations. Make sure you choose flowers that look and smell good in combination with each other, and fill in the gaps with babys breath and leafy greenery. When you are making larger potted flower arrangements, an aesthetically pleasing plant is a great base for your design. However, you might not want to combine a spiky cactus with soft blooming roses. If you are using only flowers, you will need a piece of arranging foam to provide a structure for the piece. Green foam can be purchased at most craft stores, and it can be cut to fit any shape you need. Before you start sticking in your stems, you might sketch out an idea of the final product. If the arrangement is to be large, pick a few large flowers to act as focal points rather than picking a multitude of tiny blooms. Too many small flowers distract the eye and make the arrangement seem busy rather than soothing.Once you have chosen all of your flowers and greenery, begin arranging them in the container. It will take several tries and lot of adjusting before your create a finished product, but be confident and do what looks best. Arranging flowers is an intuitive art, and if you have chosen a good color scheme and a variety of shapes and sizes, the correct eye-pleasing concoction will often fall into place with little effort. When you are finished, you will have a beautiful, natural decoration to perk up even the gloomiest of environments, and you will have the satisfaction of having created a wonderful work of art.
